French street artist JR teamed up with the New York Times for the cover of their “Walking New York” special edition zine, which features an aerial image of a young man, 20-year-old immigrant Elmar Aliyez, striding between crosswalks and flanked by cars. The large-scale wheatpasted work was executed overnight and spans the entire triangular expanse of Manhattan’s Flatiron Plaza. When seen up close, the image is undecipherable, but from far away, the perspective makes a giant, very cool switch, with JR’s subject towering over the city.
