Architecture from a Micro Perspective

  • by Jenny Bahn

Separating the wood from the trees, so to speak, photographer Sebastian Weiss takes the smallest parts of the greater whole, giving the often unnoticed architectural elements and patterns a starring role in his images. In doing so, the Architectural Digest Germany photo columnist lends his photographs an almost sci-fi feel, where buildings take on an Orwellian, alien quality when seen from a specific, more narrow viewpoint. By cropping in, Weiss recontextualizes the subject, lending it a different, curated narrative.
